What is Dark Manor?

Dark Manor — officially Wizard's Dark Manor Escape — is a Harry Potter-inspired vacation rental spanning over 5,000 enchanted square feet on 2 sprawling acres in Adamstown, Maryland. Styled as a mysterious wizarding estate, it's built around a self-run Dungeon Escape experience, a scavenger hunt for dark artifacts, and themed spaces that carry guests from the Great Banquet Hall to the Forbidden Dark Alley.

Who is it best for?

Dark Manor sleeps up to 16-17 guests across 8 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms (4 full, 2 half), spread across three levels including a main floor with no stairs. It's perfect for large family gatherings, bachelor/bachelorette weekends, and birthday celebrations. Weddings, events, and additional guests beyond 17 can be accommodated for an additional cost. Guests must be 27+ to book, and a signed rental contract is required.

What makes it unique?

A 12-foot indoor slide tucked inside an enchanted game hall (“Wizard's Alley”), a self-run Dungeon Escape (60-90 minutes) where guests solve riddles to recover lost amulets, and a Great Banquet Hall where 20 guests can feast in candlelit splendor. The Enchanted Parlor doubles as a bar-lounge and the gateway into the escape room, the Cauldron Tavern serves up hearty pub meals, and the Forbidden Dark Alley below houses curious shops for guests who dabble in the Dark Arts.

Sleeping arrangements

8 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms (4 full, 2 half) across three levels. Main level: no stairs, with 2 queen bedrooms and a full bath. Upstairs: 4 bedrooms and 2 baths — Bedroom 1 with 2 full beds, Bedroom 2 with a bunk bed (queen over queen), Bedroom 3 with 3 twin beds, and Bedroom 4 with a king bed plus 2 twin beds above. Basement: 2 bedrooms and 1 bath — Bedroom 5 with 2 twin beds and Bedroom 6 with 1 king bed.

Escape rooms & activities

  • The Dungeon Escape — a self-run, 60-90 minute experience where guests solve the Manor's riddles and recover lost amulets to break the chains and lead the rescue. Online hints and clues are available if needed, and the room can be reset for another group to play.
  • Dark artifacts scavenger hunt — hours of searching the manor's magical halls for hidden dark artifacts.
  • 12-foot indoor slide — tucked inside the enchanted game hall off Wizard's Alley.
  • Wizard's Alley — a shop for mystical curiosities where young witches and wizards let a wand choose its master.
  • The Cauldron Tavern — bubbling brews, hearty pub meals, and games with your housemates.
  • The Enchanted Parlor — a bar-lounge at the manor's heart that also serves as the escape room's gateway.

Family reunions

With 8 bedrooms sleeping up to 17 guests and a Great Banquet Hall built for 20 to feast together, Dark Manor is designed for large extended families to gather under one roof instead of splitting across hotel rooms. The main level's stair-free bedroom and bath make it easier for guests of all ages and mobility levels to join in.

Birthdays

The Dungeon Escape, scavenger hunt, indoor slide, and full wizarding-world theming make Dark Manor a built-in celebration for milestone birthdays and bachelor/bachelorette weekends. The Great Banquet Hall and Cauldron Tavern are both well suited to a group dinner or celebration after the day's adventures.

Group trips

The property comfortably hosts groups up to 17 guests included in the price; additional guests beyond that are charged an event fee per person. Weddings and larger events can be arranged for an additional cost. Guests regularly combine Dark Manor with Forbidden Hut and The Castle nearby for larger multi-family trips — ask us about booking multiple properties together for one connected event.

Location

Dark Manor sits on 2 sprawling acres at 2772A Washington Street in Adamstown, Maryland — near The Castle and Forbidden Hut — in a quiet, small-town setting in Frederick County with easy access to Route 340 and I-70.

Things nearby

Frederick County gives guests plenty to explore beyond the manor gates: the historic downtown Frederick arts and dining district, the antique shops of nearby New Market, hiking at Sugarloaf Mountain, and Civil War history at Monocacy National Battlefield are all a short drive away.
