Why Wizard's Escape Exists

Most vacation rentals are judged on square footage, bed count, and how nice the kitchen photographs. Those things matter, but they don't answer the question every family actually has on a group trip: what are we going to do together once we get there? A big house with a big TV doesn't solve that. A shared activity does.

Wizard's Escape was built around that gap. Instead of a house that happens to have a game room, each property is designed from the ground up as a themed experience: a wizard-and-magic world that a family walks into together, complete with self-run escape rooms, scavenger hunts, and rooms styled as corners of a fantasy world — a Gamekeeper's chamber, a Dungeon Escape, an Enchanted Parlor. The lodging and the activity aren't separate add-ons; they're the same thing.

Lodging + Escape Rooms + Story, Not Just a House

Each of the three properties — The Castle, Forbidden Hut, and Dark Manor — pairs real, comfortable vacation-home basics (multiple bedrooms, full kitchens, space for 15 or more guests) with an immersive layer most rentals don't attempt:

• Self-run escape rooms built into the property itself, designed to be solved by mixed-age teams without a staff member walking guests through it.
• Scavenger hunts and themed grounds that turn the outdoor space into part of the experience, not just a yard.
• Fully themed interiors — from a stone escape-room hut to a Great Banquet Hall to a 12-foot indoor slide — so the theming isn't a few posters on a wall, it's the whole stay.

The philosophy behind combining all of this under one roof is simple: a family reunion, a milestone birthday, or a group of old friends only gets so many days together. We'd rather give them a shared story to solve than a shared remote control.

Three Properties, One Idea

What started as a single wizard-themed home in Adamstown has grown into three: The Castle, a 7,500 sq. ft. manor with two escape rooms and a seasonal pool; Forbidden Hut, styled as a Gamekeeper's dwelling on the edge of a "Forbidden Dark Forest," built for families with kids; and Dark Manor, the largest of the three, with a self-run Dungeon Escape and a 12-foot indoor slide. Each property has its own personality and its own puzzles, but all three share the same address in Frederick County, Maryland, and the same goal — guests who leave having actually spent time together, not just in the same house.

Who It's For

Families planning reunions across three generations. Friends organizing a milestone birthday or a bachelor/bachelorette weekend. Coworkers looking for a retreat that isn't a hotel conference room. Anyone who has ever finished a vacation and realized everyone spent most of it on their own screen. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling, Warner Bros., or any related trademark holders. The magic here is ours — built room by room, puzzle by puzzle, for guests who want to play a part in it for a weekend.
